Who reads?

There is an article on CNN about a recent study on reading habits of Americans. As you might imagine, it’s not all that good, but I suppose that might be a biased opinion. There are a bunch of interesting points in the article, but I’ll put out a couple of the most interesting.

  1. 25% of Americans read no books in the past year
  2. People in the south read more than other areas, but they read religious books and romance novels
  3. People who never attend religious services read nearly twice as much as those who do
  4. Democrats and liberals read slightly more than Republicans and conservatives
  5. Religious books are most likely to be read by older and married women, lower earners, minorities, lesser educated people, Southerners, rural residents, Republicans and conservatives

    I’ve heard it said that old peoplew read more because they are closer to their final examination…I don’t know because I read fiction…but that’s what I heard.
