The art of the video game song

Video games are becoming vehicles for other types of media. There are now advertisements inside living, breathing game worlds. In some games, there are books for you to read that give you a better understanding of the world in which you are playing. One media form that has long been represented is music. I remember back in Lunar Silver Star Story (on the Playstation) when this gem came across my screen. Seriously, I started crying. Yeah, I am a wimp I guess. But the blue haired chick singing was my (the characters) lifelong friend, how can you not cry?

Now comes the theme song from Mercenaries 2. It’s actually been out for quite a while, I just now am getting around to talking about it. While I wouldn’t say it’s going to win any awards, it certainly is quite the catchy tune! I mean, it’s really catchy. I have it in my iTunes library and I actually listen to it now and then. I’ve never played the game nor will I, but the song lives on!

Oh No You Didn’t

I am sure there are other examples of songs from video games having a strong effect. Any more examples jump to mind?
