Now you see it, now you don't
SOBO has closed it’s doors (only for a little while) and when they opened up again, through some new magic, they became Murphy’s South. There is already a Murphy’s in North Boulder and now we’ve got on in South Boulder as well. I am not a fan of the one in North Boulder and after trying out the new souther one, I can’t say I am a huge fan of the new one either. I’ll post the review below to Urbanspoon as well whenever they get the name changed over.
“I really liked the first iteration of SOBO. It was a nice restaurant with a great location (really close to me). You paid a fair bit of money but I thought the food, service and atmosphere made it worth it. Then SOBO changed their menu and tried to become more affordable. This was even better, I could get pretty much the same food for a bit less money. Recently the doors closed on SOBO and when they reopened, it was called by a different name. It’s now called Murphy’s South to reflect a different menu and a different attitude. It’s now calling itself ‘your neighborhood restaurant.’ The problem is, while the menu and attitude have changed, the prices haven’t. It’s still a bit pricey but gone are the atmosphere of a fine dining restaurant. Gone is the bread before food arrives. They still have the same happy hour and a large wine/beer selection. But overall, I was not impressed with the amount/quality of food that I got for my money. I like the idea of having a ‘neighborhood restaurant’ right down the street, there aren’t a ton of options in South Boulder. But if you’re going to lower the quality of the atmosphere and food, I feel like you need to lower the prices as well.
The one nice thing is that the staff seem to be a carryover from SOBO and that is certainly a good thing in my book!”
Now I am hungry, Cinnamon Toasters here I come!
