Imogene Pass Race

This past weekend, Christa and I headed down to Ouray, Colorado for a race over the mountains and into Telluride. Now don’t go getting any crazy ideas, I didn’t do any running, but I did some supporting. The race started at 7:30 in a small mountain town called Ouray. You can see a picture below.

Ouray is actually called the ‘Switzerland of America’. It’s called this by the local town business bureau no doubt. I immediately thought this was hilarious but as I spent a little time there, it began to grow on me. It’s nestled right in the mountains with a number of old buildings lining the roadway. Plus it has a chocolatier right downtown, can’t beat that!

So up into the mountains Christa ran. She might have seen something like below but I can’t be certain as I didn’t go up there myself. The Imogene Pass run is the highest elevation run in the US or something crazy like that. I could be making that up but I think the announcer at the finish line said something to the effect.

A couple of hours later, as Perrin and I sat waiting in Telluride (you can see it below), Christa came running down a hill that lead out of the mountains. Woohoo! 17 miles later she was in Telluride. It took me 45 minutes to drive from Ouray to Telluride but she took the shorter way and just ran over the mountain. Hardcore!

After we grabbed some lunch in Telluride we headed up to Palisades (peach capitol of the world or something) and stopped at a winery and a fruit stand. We came home with some peaches and chocolate fortified wine, yum.

PS – none of these pictures are mine as I was too lazy to actually take out my camera. But if I had taken pictures, they’d look exactly like the ones here.
