Boulder wildfire time lapse video

Embedded below is a time lapse video of the Boulder wildfire taken overnight by BoulderOSteens. What’s crazy is that this is taken (I think) from the approximate location of our (soon to happen) wedding!

Video is after the break.

Wildfire in Boulder

I’ve been following intently a fire that’s been spreading around the hills of Boulder. Earlier this morning, there were three separate fires but I believe they’ve contained one of them. I’ve been getting most of my information from @fishnette who is monitoring police scanners and passing along the relevant information. It’s an amazing example of what a dedicated community can do with current technologies.

The pictures coming out of the event have been spectacular. Certainly not newsworthy in a national or global sense, to many in the Boulder area, this is a huge deal obviously. The number of pictures and videos are growing as the event continues. It’s an eerie reinforcement of what I just posted earlier today about sousveillance.

Sousveillance in action

Sousveillance is the opposite of surveillance. It is the watching or recording of an activity from those involved in the activity or at the activity’s level as opposed to surveillance which records the action from a disconnected vantage point. It is generally used in counterpoint to a Big Brother type surveillance scheme. The idea is that if everyone watches everyone ‘from below’, we won’t need the surveillance ‘from above’. Furthermore, sousveillance is generally considered to be a way to keep surveillance mechanisms in check.

But never mind all that, I found a pretty cool YouTube video that shows some awesome sousveillance in action. With the proliferation of video recording devices, expect to see this sort of thing happen a lot more often in the future. So be careful who you try to pick a fight with.

The video embedded below is a composite of a number of different feeds all focusing on a semi fight that happened at the US Open just recently. It’s somewhat exciting in it’s own right, but you can definitely see where it reached a (albeit small) critical mass of stupidity that caused other people to start jumping in and recording.

Video after the break.

Dog Days

A local pool here in Boulder shuts down for a couple of weeks to allow dogs to enjoy it. We stopped by today with Perrin. The thing is, Perrin doesn’t really like swimming. I threw him in the water a couple of times and Christa pushed him from behind into the deep end once. We’re awesome dog owners… He can swim alright, I guess he just doesn’t like it that much.

Enjoy this picture of not my dog jumping of the diving board. We took some pictures of Perrin too I think so I’ll try and get them up later.

Not my dog, because my dog hates swimming

Something is living in my motorcycle…

I went to lock my helmet and jacket onto my motorcycle yesterday and this is what I saw.

A mouse!

Something definitely made a nest in there. The weird thing is, this must have happened in the last couple of days as I was just in there the other day. I am going to feel bad cleaning it out… homewrecker.
