About Me

babyI have had joeflasher.com running for quite some time and never thought to put an About page up. I would think about it, then put it off and never get around to it. My basic reasoning was that this site was mostly for people who already knew who I was. As the internet becomes more social and I start to take advantage of those opportunities, I realize though that a lot of people come to this website with no idea of what it’s for or who I am.

gradThis website is an extension of me. I mean by that only that it serves to reflect whatever I am interested in. It’s had several incarnations over the years but has been steady in it’s current form for some time now. If I see something online that interests me, I put a link to it here. If I go traveling abroad, I put updates here. If I have thoughts that I think others might be interested in hearing or that I am interested in discussing with others, I will post them here. If I have some pictures I want to share, they go here. So in all respects, this website reflects my interests. In fact, making and maintaining this website is one of my main interests!

So how about it, who am I? Well the quick answer is to just browse around the website. I am a firm believer that you as a person are made up by the collection of your actions and interests. Through this website, you can see a large collection of both. But I guess I can try and give a more general explanation.

I was born in Pennsylvania but currently live in Colorado. I went to the Pennsylvania State University where I obtained a degree in astronomy and astrophysics. I moved to Boulder, Colorado in 2003 to pursue my PhD in astrophysics. Somewhere along the way I lost my interest in it (at least professionally) and decided to leave with my master’s degree. I jumped around a little bit but now am happily employed as a software developer here in Boulder.

me_bears.jpgI have a ton of interests and the intensity with which I pursue them change often. I love listening to music and searching out new songs. I have to figure that my favorite song is out there somewhere and I haven’t even heard it yet! I love ice hockey. I have played since I was young and currently referee when I can. I love traveling. I have been to China for an extended trip with my girlfriend Christa and enjoyed it immensely (you can see more of both Christa and China in my gallery). I also lived in Poland for a summer as well as having traveled in Europe. I also love technology and all that it entails. I’ve built my last several computers and I am fairly into gadgets.

I guess that’s me in a nutshell. Please look around and let me know if you have any comments!
